2026 WCQ: Nigeria could’ve scored 10 goals against Zimbabwe – Super Eagles coach, Chelle

Published on March 26, 2025 at 09:31 AM

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle has insisted that his team could have scored ten goals against Zimbabwe during both sides' 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Chelle watched as the Super Eagles played a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Nigeria took the lead in the 74th minute, thanks to Victor Osimhen's header.

But the Super Eagles failed to hold on as Tawanda Chirewa's late stoppage time equalizer ensured both Zimbabwe and Nigeria got a point each.

Speaking after the game, Chelle said at his post-match interview:

“What can I say about the first half? Normally, we could have scored ten goals in the first half.

“You make some mistakes in the last technical skills and Zimbabwe comes to defend and stop the game.”

Nigeria are in fourth position in Group C with seven points, six behind leaders South Africa.
