2026 WCQ: Rohr predicts what Zimbabwe will do to Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Uyo

Published on March 22, 2025 at 08:20 PM

Benin Republic head coach, Gernot Rohr, has predicted that Zimbabwe will put up a strong fight against Nigeria when both sides meet in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles will host Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday evening.

Eric Chelle's side head into the encounter after a 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali on Friday, while Zimbabwe played out a 2-2 draw with Benin.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Rohr said: “The 2-2 draw is okay.

“In the first half, we were the better team, but they dominated the second half. A 2-2 result always means one point.

“We knew this was Zimbabwe’s last chance to qualify for the World Cup. Now, with three points, it is finished.

“But they are fighting very well, and I know that with this coach and his staff, they will do the same [against Nigeria] in Uyo and again against Rwanda and Lesotho.”

Nigeria currently sit in fourth place in Group C, while Zimbabwe are bottom of the group.
