2026 WCQ: Super Eagles seek first win over Rwanda in Kigali

Published on March 21, 2025 at 08:14 AM

The Super Eagles will be looking to record their first away win against Rwanda in Friday's (today) 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, DAILY POST reports.

The Super Eagles have failed to beat the Amavubi in three attempts in Kigali.

Nigeria held Rwanda to a 1-1 draw in a 2006 World Cup qualifying match at the Amahoro Stadium 20 years ago.

In 2011, both teams battled to a 0-0 draw in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match at the Stade Regional de Nyamirambo.

In September last year, another 0-0 was the outcome of a 2025 AFCON qualifying tie at the Amahoro Stadium.

The Super Eagles must end the barren streak if they want to earn a place in the 2026 World Cup finals.

The three-time African champions recorded three draws and one defeat from their opening four games.

They sit precariously in fifth position in Group C with three points.

Rwanda occupy second position in the group with seven points.
