2026 WCQ: Super Eagles under pressure – Zimbabwe captain, Marshall Munetsi

Published on March 25, 2025 at 02:46 PM

Zimbabwe captain, Marshall Munetsi has suggested that the Super Eagles of Nigeria are under pressure ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday evening.

Munetsi said if Zimbabwe start the game well against Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, then the pressure will be on Eric Chelle's side.

Nigeria revived their World Cup quest after beating Rwanda 2-0 last Friday.

The West Africans currently sit in fourth position in Group C while Zimbabwe are bottom in the group.

When asked if Zimbabwe were feeling any pressure ahead of the encounter, Munetsi said at his pre-match press conference in Uyo, “Not really.”;

“I think you see most of the [Zimbabwe] players are playing in Europe, far away from home. So playing away games is better than playing at home. The pressure is always on the home team.

“If we manage to start the game well, then the pressure is on them to try to get a good result.

“It’s a pleasure to be here playing in such a stadium with good capacity. So we are just here to enjoy the game,” he added.
