2026 WCQ: Super Eagles used 2 or 3 systems against Rwanda – Chelle

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle has praised his players for their effort and adaptability in the win over Rwanda.

Chelle made a winning start with the Super Eagles with the visitors edging past the Amavubi 2-0 in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday five encounter at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali on Friday.

The Malian adopted what looked like a 4-2-3-1 formation for the game.

Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi featured in midfield, while the quartet of Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola and Victor Osimhen occupied attacking roles.

Chelle, however, admitted that more work still needs to be done despite his team's victory.

“This is why I said I am proud of my players. Congratulations to them,” the 47-year-old said after the game

“We need to improve, I know that. This was the first game, so I'm happy for the win, but we need to go back to work.”

He also admitted that his team used two or three systems in the game.

“We have a team with strengths and weaknesses, my job is to think about the game and project,” Chelle added.

“My job is to tell my players it's possible to play like that so this is a game we played two or three systems.”
