2026 WCQ: We’ll see – Troost-Ekong fires back at Rwanda captain over comments about Super Eagles

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong on Thursday issued a defiant response to Rwanda captain, Djihad Bizimana's claim that the Amavubi can stop Nigeria's attacking threat in when both teams clash in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday.

Speaking to journalists at a press conference in Kigali ahead of the crucial game, Bizimana dismissed concerns about Nigeria's attacking prowess.

DAILY POST reports that the Super Eagles squad has the likes of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Boniface, Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon in the attack.

However, Troost-Ekong remained confident in Super Eagles' attacking firepower, insisting that Eric Chelle's side would see the hosts in the game on Friday evening.

“Starting off, I think we have, maybe, one of the best attacking players (forwards) in the world not just in Africa,” Troost-Ekong said told a press conference when speaking about Bizimana's claim.

“I think every team in Africa is difficult to play against away from home.”

“We respect Rwanda, we prepare for them so I am happy to hear they believe they can handle our team, if that is their preparation, so we would see tomorrow in the game,” the former Watford defender added.

Recall that during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers campaign, Nigeria played a 1-1 draw with the Amavubi in Kigali before a shock 2-1 defeat in Uyo.
