2026 WCQ: Why we thrash Brazil – Argentina coach, Lionel Scaloni

Published on March 26, 2025 at 12:07 PM

Argentina coach, Lionel Scaloni has explained why his team thrashed Brazil 4-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Brazil were humiliated by Argentina in Buenos Aires following goals from Julián Álvarez, Enzo Fernandez, Alexis Mac Allister and Giuliano Simeone.

The result leave Argentina on top of the South American standings with 31 points from 14 matches, while Brazil are fourth on 21 points.

Speaking after the game, Scaloni suggested that his team defeated Brazil because his players played as a team.

“This is a team victory. We played as a team, and that is why we were able to minimize Brazil,” Scaloni said at his post-match press conference.

“I really don't know if it's our greatest victory, we have played great games and doing great things in them.

“A team has to know what to do in different situations, and tonight, the boys did great.”
