2026 World Cup qualifier: Chelle hails Super Eagles’ win over Rwanda

Published on March 21, 2025 at 07:46 PM

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has reflected on his side's away win over the Amavubi of Rwanda, DAILY POST reports.

The three-time African champions revived their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Adel Amrouche's side at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali, on Friday night.

It was Nigeria's first-ever win on Rwandan soil.

Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen scored both goals for Nigeria in the first half.

“It was a difficult game; Rwanda have a great team. I am proud of my players' performance. We worked a lot within the few days,” Chelle said after the game.

“We had just two full training sessions. We kept the ball well in the second half—good performance from my guys (players).”

The Super Eagles have moved to fourth position in Group C with six points from five games.
