2027: APC vows to capture Cross River North Senate, House of Reps seats

Published on April 02, 2025 at 03:21 PM

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has set its sights on winning the senatorial and House of Representatives seats in the North Senatorial District from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general elections.

State APC Chairman, Mr. Alphonsus Eba, made this declaration while addressing journalists in Calabar on Wednesday.

Currently, Senator Jarigbe Jarigbe of the PDP represents the district in the Senate, while Peter Akpanke (PDP) holds the Bekwarra/Obudu/Obanliku Federal Constituency seat.

However, Godwin Odey (APC) represents Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Eba urged APC members holding elective and appointive positions to work diligently and support Governor Bassey Otu’s re-election bid.

“The APC is determined to take over all political positions in the North Senatorial District come 2027, we must remain united and committed to this cause,”;; he said.

The chairman also distanced the party from a petition reportedly written by a legal practitioner under the aegis of “Concerned Stakeholders of APC in the Northern Senatorial District”;; against Sen. Jarigbe.

“The petition written against the sitting senator regarding a N12.5 billion constituency fund is not from us, and we completely disassociate ourselves from it,”;; Eba stated.

He warned party members against engaging in unauthorized legal actions using APC’s name.

“On no account should any member of this party hire a lawyer for any matter that gives an impression that the APC is behind it,”;; he cautioned.

Eba acknowledged that party members had the constitutional right to form support groups but emphasized that such groups must be registered and recognized by the APC.

“Groups like the Northern Coalition, Centricle, and the Southern Summit are authorized to work, but they must adhere to the party’s code of conduct,”;; he added.

He further stressed the need for the groups to establish proper structures and leadership to ensure orderliness within the party.
