51 Malian migrants nabbed in Nasarawa without valid documents

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested 51 illegal migrants in New Nyanya, Karu Local Council of Nasarawa State, all of whom are Malians without valid travel documents or residence permits.

The NIS Public Relations Officer, ACI A.S Akinlabi, confirmed the arrest, stating that the migrants; 40 males and 11 females were apprehended at their hideouts following credible intelligence.

According to preliminary investigations, the arrested individuals may have been victims of human trafficking and smuggling.

“None of them presented valid travel documents or proof of legal residency when questioned,”; Akinlabi said.

He added that they are currently in custody for further profiling and investigation.
