60,000 children face malnutrition over border closure by Israel – Gaza health authorities warn

Published on April 09, 2025 at 05:14 PM

Health authorities in the Gaza Strip said on Wednesday that around 60,000 children are facing life-threatening malnutrition due to the ongoing closure of border crossings by Israel.

The authorities explained that the closure has blocked the entry of food, humanitarian assistance, and medical supplies into Gaza.

They warned that the prolonged blockade has severely restricted access to essential nutrition and healthcare, putting children’s health at greater risk.

In a statement, the Gaza-based health authorities highlighted that the lack of adequate food, clean water, and the ongoing ban on vaccinations, particularly for poliovirus, could worsen the already deteriorating public health conditions in the area.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, all crossings into Gaza have been closed to humanitarian and commercial shipments since March 2.

The UN described the current blockade as the longest continuous closure since the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas in October 2023, NAN reports.
