Abia Warriors beat Rivers United in Umuahia, eye CAF Champions League

Second-placed Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt on Sunday conceded one goal in each half of their match against Abia Warriors.

Emmanuel Ogbuagu scored in the 45th minute of the first half, while regular scorer Anthony Ijioma secured victory for the Warriors in the 76th minute.

The Warriors, coached by Imama Amapakabor, recorded the important victory over Rivers United, who sit second behind Remo Stars on the Nigerian Professional Football League table.

With the 2–0 result, Abia Warriors remain third on the NPFL table with 53 points from 33 matches and are still in contention for a CAF Champions League slot.

Remo Stars drew 0–0 on Sunday against Katsina United but maintained their top position with 62 points from 33 matches, while Rivers United remain second with 55 points.
