Adamawa Assembly passes bill outlawing discrimination against people with disability

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to prohibit any form of discrimination against Persons Living With Disability, PLWD.

The bill for a law to repeal Adamawa State Disability Right Commission Law No. 14 of 2016 and Re-enact the Adamawa State Persons with Disability Law Commission, to ensure Full Integration of Persons with Disability into the Society, prohibits any form of discrimination against anyone living with disability.

The PLWD bill came along three others, including a bill for a law to establish the Adamawa State Climate Change Commission to Provide for Mainstreaming of Climate Change Actions.

The Assembly also passed a bill for a law to provide for Prohibition of Spillage of Sand, Laterite and Gravel on the Highways and other Roads in the state.

The bills were sponsored by the member representing Mubi South Constituency, Yohanna Sahabo Jauro.

The fourth freshly passed bill is tagged ‘A Bill for a Law to amend Adamawa State Public Procurement Law 2020, to make the Appointment of Chairman and three Members who are Non-Ex-Officio Members Full-Time.

The passage of the bills followed separate motions sponsored by the Majority Leader and Member representing Demsa constituency at the Assembly, Kate Mamuno Raymond.

After the enactment of the bills, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, directed the Clerk of the Assembly to prepare clean copies of the bills for Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to sign into law.
