Published on April 29, 2025 at 01:13 PM

Aisha Achimugu, a business woman and socialite, has embarked on a ‘hunger strike’ in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, following her arrest by operatives of the anti-graft agency.

This was disclosed in a statement by her legal team, led by Mr Chikaosolu Ojukwu, on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to Ojukwu, at about 5:00 am at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Ojukwu said: “In the light of what transpired in court on Monday, our client returned based on the undertaking before the court to honor the EFCC’s invitation, but was arrested at the airport.

”;She has immediately gone on a hunger strike. She is a prisoner of conscience and our stand in the arrest is that it has run contrary to the rule of law.”;

The EFCC had last month declared Achimugu wanted for allegations of money laundering and criminal conspiracy.

Also, a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice I.E. Ekwo, on Monday ordered Achimugu to honour the EFCC’s invitation today (Tuesday) and as well appear before the court on Wednesday.
