When Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez officially called it quits a few weeks ago, I naturally assumed that both parties decided to call it quits after coming to the conclusion that it just couldn’t work out, due to JLo finally realizing that she could not change A-Rod’s allegedly unfaithful-seeming ways. When someone shows you who they are, believe their cheating ass. But while JLo is rumored to be ready to move on from this breakup more quickly than she moved on from the #LoveDontCostAThingChallenge, it sounds like A-Rod thinks their breakup could be temporary and might be plotting to win JLo back.
JLo and A-Rod were recently seen having dinner together, which isn’t too weird, considering they swore that they would absolutely remain friends, even if they didn’t want to be romantically involved with each other anymore. Some figured the dinner was for business and others guessed they might be back together. But a source who spoke with People magazine decided to clear things up, and they say that their dinner was a totally platonic, just-two-friends-eating-food situation.
A week after announcing the official end of their engagement, the superstar and the baseball player turned entrepreneur reunited for dinner on April 25 at the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles to “talk business and how to move forward in a friendly way,” a source close to Lopez tells People in this week’s issue. “Jennifer and Alex are figuring out how to be exes and still remain friends,” says the source.
The business they’d be talking about would be all the business ventures they shared during their 4-year relationship. They can’t make a clean break, so long as they’ve got stock in frozen meals, people. The source adds that it’s really important for JLo to make this breakup as kind and gentle as possible because there are kids involved. During the time JLo and A-Rod were together, they blended their families because they had kids that were all around the same age. Along with A-Rod came 16-year-old Natasha and 13-year-old Ella from his previous marriage to Cynthia Scurtis, while JLo shares 13-year-old twins Max and Emme with her previous husband Marc Antony. The source says JLo has been a big part of A-Rod’s daughters’ lives, and she will continue to be a big part. Well, if A-Rod’s alleged dreams come true, then she could be their step-mom. Because that same source is saying A-Rod doesn’t really seem to be moving on as JLo has.
Since ending her two-year engagement, Lopez has been “fine,” says the source. “She is very strong and will continue to follow her heart.”
“Alex seems to have a harder time letting go. He still wants to get back together with Jennifer. But to her, their relationship is over.”
The source does not go on to say how exactly A-Rod plans to woo his former fiancé back. More framed pictures added to his shrine? Recording an album of love songs called Rounding the Bases of My Heart dedicated to his soulmate, JLo? I hope it’s that last one I pitched. Because who wouldn’t love to hear A-Rod croon out some real break-up emotion in that monotone baseball bro voice of his. But all he needs is one song to tell JLo exactly how he feels. And that’s a cover of Meatloaf’s “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That).” What better way to say that he’s willing to do absolutely anything to win back JLo’s love, while also establishing that there’s one thing he won’t do, and that’s to give her full access to his phone any time she asks. There’s no way he’s doing that.
