Alexander-Arnold banned from taking favourite shirt number at Real Madrid

Published on March 25, 2025 at 06:58 PM

Trent Alexander-Arnold will not be able to wear his preferred number 66 jersey if he joins Real Madrid from Liverpool this summer.

The England right-back is believed to be close to signing for the LaLiga giants when he becomes a free agent in June.

Alexander-Arnold has reportedly agreed to a deal that will see him earn around €15 million per year.

The 26-year-old has worn the number 66 shirt since breaking into Liverpool’s first team and may have hoped to retain the same jersey at the Santiago Bernabéu next season.

However, LaLiga rules stipulate that players can only be assigned numbers between 1 and 25, reflecting the maximum squad size.
