Wife of the former Governor of Ogun State, Mrs Olufunso Amosun, has joined forces with the state chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ to combat gender-based violence and other social injustices that affect women in the state.

Mrs Amosun, while receiving members of NAWOJ on a courtesy visit to her residence in Abeokuta on Tuesday, said she was prepared to collaborate closely with the Association.

She repeatedly stressed the importance of empowering women in society and giving voice to those who lack it, and congratulated the association for its efforts so far.

While reiterating her support, Mrs Amosun emphasised the importance of focusing on male children as well, stating that everything must be done to put an end to all forms of violence.

She said, “It is interesting to hear the impressive work that you are doing, certainly, from everything you have narrated it resonates very well with me and I would like to collaborate with you, however I can.

“It’s a good course, it’s about the girl child, gender equality, female rights and others. And you are right to take it to the grassroots to train the boys as well on how not to participate in atrocities against females. I know there have been talks that the male gender also needs people to advocate for them as everybody has been standing up for the female gender.

“ In terms of NAWOJ, I reiterate that I would like to collaborate with you, participate in all of your activities and always notify me when you have forthcoming programs”; she added.

Speaking earlier, the Chairperson of the Association, Sekinat Salam, hinted Mrs Amosun of its activities and recent empowerment carried out for women and the girl child in the state.

Salam expressed gratitude to Mrs Amosun for her family's unwavering support and hard work.

Meanwhile, Ibikunle Amosun's wife urged the women journalists to uphold their good deeds throughout the year rather than waiting for a specific day or time.
