The candidate of the Young Progressive Party, YPP, for the November 8 Anambra State governorship election, Sir Paul Chukwuma has appointed aide of ex-governor, Willie Obiano, Chief Uzu Okagbue as his running mate.
Chukwuma unveiled Okagbue as his running mate at the YPP state secretariat in Udoka, Awka, on Friday.
At the unveiling Okagbue said: “Uzu is a fitting choice for my progressive vision for Anambra State. God has made it possible for us to agree in one voice on who should be our deputy governorship candidate.
“Our deputy governorship candidate is Uzu Okagbue. We consulted widely, and involved party stakeholders, religious stakeholders, my campaign team, my family and God.
“I'm proud and excited to present to you a refined gentleman who I have worked with for a while now and found in him a true representation of one with the spirit of Anambra. A patriotic citizen and one who is eager to ensure that the glory and shining light which Anambra is known for is restored. I have found in him a friend and brother and one who Anambra people can rely on.”
In his acceptance speech, Okagbue said he was ready to partner with Chukwuma to give Anambra the development that she deserves.
He said: “I will work hard to achieve our manifesto at the background and that is what I know how best to do. I will support Chukwuma to bring a message of hope, freedom and better ways to do things to Anambra.
“In the coming months it will c/ear that there is no better candidate in the race than Chukwuma. I'm happy that he found me worthy to join him on this ticket.
“I will bring to bear my track record of delivery and I will support him to move Anambra forward.”
Recall that Chukwuma was among the aspirants of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who left the party as a result of the shabby conduct of primary election of the party.
