A faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Abia State loyal to former Minister, Uche Ogah, has thrown its weight behind the recent election of Donatus Nwankpa as the National Welfare Secretary of the party.
The party in a statement in Umuahia signed by its Publicity Secretary, Offor Okorie, denied the reports in the media that the party rejected the election of Nwankpa, who was the former State Chairman of Abia APC, as the party’s National Welfare Secretary.
The APC which reacted to the statement credited to Kingsley Ononogbu -led APC faction, said such rejection of Donatus Nwankpa came from people allegedly causing disunity in Abia APC.
The Publicity Secretary who described the election of Nwankpa as the best thing to happen to APC in Abia, pointed out that those drumming negative campaigns against Donatus Nwankpa did not want the broom party to grow in Abia.
He credited the roles of Uche Ogah, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu and some other APC stalwarts in Abia for the continued relevance of the party in Abia.
“That Donatus being elected as the National Welfare secretary of the party indicates that there is a strong hope of the party coming together again as one indivisible entity, and ready to win elections and not as the one which one individual decides what happens in the State party.
It will be recalled that the National Working Committee on Wednesday added six members to its fold in line with the directives of it’s National Executive Council, NEC.
NEC had at its last meeting ceded part of its power to the NWC to allow the party’s administrative organ to fill vacant NWC and zonal positions.
Okorie said anybody or faction that is against the emergence of Donatus Nwankpa as the National Welfare Secretary is an enemy of the party in the state.
“Abia APC cannot continue to remain in darkness. The people fighting against the election of Hon Donatus Nwankpa as the National Welfare secretary of the party are the same people that don’t have the capacity to win elections in the state.
“Their duty is to always try to quench the light that will bring brightness to the party which we will never allow to happen again.
“The nomination and election of Hon Donatus Nwankpa was constitutionally carried out,and is accepted by all real party men and women in the State.
He advised the Kingsley Ononogbu faction to jettison their opposition to Nwankpa as his choice has been accepted by the Abia APC, noting that Nwankpa’s performance as the former Chairman of the party in Abia earned him the NWS job.
Okorie called for unity among the leaders of the party in Abia for stronger and better electoral performances.
The Uche Ogah faction of the APC thanked the NWC for ratifying Nwankpa as the National Welfare Secretary and assured the National body of good working relationships and a stronger party in the state.
