Because of the pandemic, a whole lot of giant, budget-busting, attention-yanking celebrity wedding spectacles didn’t happen. It’s been a terribly boring year for whoever at People magazine gets to color-correct their “EXCLUSIVE Wedding Album Inside!” covers. But, that doesn’t mean famous people have settled for a quick n’ private trip to the courthouse in a $30 sale rack dress, either. Ariana Grande still had the wedding of her dreams, albeit one that was likely on a smaller, more modest scale. A little over a week after we learned that she got married to her fiancé of five months, Dalton Gomez, she’s dropped a whole bunch of pictures of her special day for us strangers on the internet to gawk at.
27-year-old Ariana and 25-year-old Dalton tied the knot at her home in Montecito. It was a small event that was attended by less than 20 of her closest family and friends. Vogue got the exclusives on Ariana’s wedding. They say that Ariana wore a custom-made Vera Wang gown, with diamond and pearl earrings that matched her engagement ring. One earring was worn upside down, to represent the lowest and highest moments that have so far defined her life. Dalton wore a Tom Ford suit. As for the ceremony itself, it sounds like it was a very nice, simple wedding. via Vogue:
The ceremony was an intimate affair, with less than 20 close friends and family gathered to watch the couple say “I do” in a room aglow in candlelight. Like the lyrics of “thank u, next” predicted (“One day I’ll walk down the aisle, Holding hands with my mama”) Ariana’s mother, Joan Grande, gave her away, although in real life she did so alongside Ariana’s father, Ed Butera, which was a personal high point and one of the most special moments for the bride. Then the couple said their vows, committing to happy ever after, in love forever.
If you’re looking at these pictures of Ariana with a twee little bow on the top of her head, and you’ve got a hunch that her wedding Pinterest board was probably full of pictures of Ginger from Casino and Umbrellas of Cherbourg, you’d be partially correct. Vogue says that Ariana’s stylist modeled her look after the wedding day look of Audrey Hepburn’s character in Funny Face. Ok yes, but if Audrey Hepburn’s character also owned a pair of 10-inch satin-wrapped stripper heels, but to be honest, it’s nice to see such creative license taken.
It has been said that Ariana’s friends think she was moving too fast with Dalton, and I could say the same thing about this wedding. Ariana moved so fast on it, she barely had time to decorate! Based on my very loose accounting, Ariana’s wedding decor looks like she gave her assistant $200, told her to hit up Michael’s Crafts for as many bags of assorted dried scrapbooking flowers and nylon fishing line as possible. Those random hanging bundles of flowers and twigs are giving me Blair Witch by way of Brides.com. While her assistant was off grabbing supplies for some DIY ceiling garlands, Ariana put her brother Frankie Grande to work, pushing all the furniture from the living room into the closest guest bedroom. “And when you’re done that, run to CVS and buy some fresh double As for these battery-operated pillar candles! Hurry! I’m due down the aisle in 45 minutes!”
