Mari, on loan at Serie A side Monza, was airlifted to hospital following the incident on Thursday which claimed the life of one person.
He was one of five victims who were randomly attacked at around 6:30pm local time.
The 29-year-old was with his wife and baby son at the time of the attack.
Mari described himself as “lucky” to be alive after the incident, reportedly telling Monza CEO Adriano Galliani: “I was with the trolley with my child inside and I felt an excruciating pain in my back.
“Then that man stabbed another in the throat.
“Today I had luck, because I saw a person die in front of me.”
