ASUU Kaduna State University resumes indefinite strike

Published on April 24, 2025 at 03:05 PM

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Kaduna State University, KASU, branch on Thursday, resumed its suspended indefinite strike over government’s failure to honour previous agreements with it.

This was contained in a statement by the institution's ASUU Chairman, Peter Adam, and made available to newsmen in Kaduna.

Adamu cited breach of trust and failure of the Kaduna State Government to honor agreements reached by both parties as reasons for the strike.

According to him, the issues in contention included non-payment of withheld salaries, earned academic allowances, promotion arrears and non-remittance of pension contributions.

He said other demands included implementation of wage awards, subscription to group life assurance for workers and restoration of university autonomy.

Adamu said the union’s congress had previously suspended the strike, “but due to the government’s failure to meet our demands, we were left with no choice but to resume the industrial action.”;

The chairman said the strike was expected to disrupt academic activities in the university.

He expressed the union’s determination to ensure that the government meets their demands before the return to duty.
