Atiku created PDP’s current crisis, ignored party zoning – APC spokesman

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, has said the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar created the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Morka said Atiku caused the PDP crisis by running for the last presidential election and contravening the party's constitution.

In an interview with TVC, Morka said Atiku contravened the zoning arrangement which favoured the South.

PDP is currently experiencing leadership crisis which started during the build-up to the 2023 presidential election.

A few days ago, Atiku's running mate in 2023, Ifeanyi Okowa and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State defected to the APC.

There are reports that two more state governors and 40 lawmakers of the PDP are planning to defect from the PDP.

However, Morka said: “The problem in the PDP was Atiku’s obdurate refusal to abide by the convention of his own party and its constitution.

“He had no business running for that election when, under their constitution, a southern candidate was mandated as, you know, under the rotational agreement to run.

“He was the one who created the problem. So it wasn’t his nomination. He was, you know, at the root of the problem that the PDP is facing today.”;

He also said the APC is not responsible for strengthening the opposition, even as he said the APC remains strong despite pressures from within and outside the party.
