Ballon d’Or: ‘If I told you otherwise I’d be lying – Raphinha on 2025 award

Published on March 25, 2025 at 06:15 AM

Barcelona winger, Raphinha, has admitted that he has thought about winning the Ballon d'Or.

The Brazilian said he thinks about winning the prestigious individual award but has to put his personal goals aside and win titles with club and country.

The international, tional who is currently on international duties with his national side, spoke to Brazil legend, Romario, insisting that his focus was currently on scoring and assisting goals.

He said, “Winning the Ballon d'Or? It's only natural that it would cross my mind, and if I told you otherwise I would be lying.

“But I try to put that aside and focus on my personal goals in my career, whether in terms of scoring goals, making assists, or winning titles.”

His national teammate, Vinicius Jr came close to winning the award last year, but lost out to Manchester City's Rodri.

Before now, Raphinha had spoken about the Ballon d'Or, saying, “The Ballon d'Or is not a priority for me. My goals are related to my performance on the field.

“I try to be better tomorrow than I am today. Winning the Ballon d'or is not a personal goal for me…”

Raphinha has scored 27 goals and provided 20 assists for Barcelona this season.
