Barau condemns barbaric killing of Northern travelers, seeks action

Published on March 28, 2025 at 08:13 PM

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I Jibrin, has strongly condemned the killing of Northern travellers in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State, describing the incident as barbaric, inhumane, and devilish.

A mob had reportedly intercepted a group of travellers, mostly Hausa hunters, who were on their way to Kano for the Sallah celebrations.

The attackers ransacked their vehicle before gruesomely murdering them.

Reacting to the incident, Senator Barau called on security agencies, particularly the Edo State Police Command, to swiftly apprehend those responsible and ensure they face justice.

“I condemn in totality the barbaric killing of innocent Nigerians. It is unacceptable and must not be allowed to go unpunished,”; Barau said in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Ismail Mudashir.

The Deputy Senate President also revealed his intention to sponsor a motion in the Senate to address the killings and push for immediate government action.

“I have been inundated with calls from my constituents and other Nigerians who are deeply disturbed by this horrific act. I will bring this matter before the Senate to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book,” he stated.

Barau urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions, emphasizing the importance of national unity.

“Nigeria is a diverse country. We should, therefore, embrace one another as brothers and sisters for our progress and development,” he appealed.

He also offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the victims and assured their families that the government would ensure justice is served.
