Although there are still plenty more new Netflix shows coming in 2021, it’s never too soon to start looking forward to the best Netflix shows coming in 2022.
While many Netflix originals will return in 2021 with long-awaited new seasons, and handfuls of new shows will captivate our collective watch lists, there are even more Netflix shows to look out for in 2022. We’re talking about some of the biggest shows on the platform.
Over the course of 2022, we should expect new seasons of some of the most beloved long-running hits and follow-up seasons to the breakout newbies we couldn’t get enough of in the past year. Of course, Stranger Things, The Crown and Ozark will dazzle us with a fresh batch of episodes, but we’re also in for new helpings of Sweet Magnolias, Bridgerton and Shadow and Bone.

Russian Doll season 2 release date
Word to the wise: Don’t forget about the excellent Netflix original series Russian Doll. Even though the series hasn’t produced new episodes since its February 2019 launch, Netflix has in fact renewed the series for a second series, which is expected to finally make its debut sometime in 2022. Obviously, it’ll be one of the biggest releases of the year.
Russian Doll stars Natasha Lyonne as Nadia Vulvokov, a New York City software engineer that mysteriously finds herself reliving her 36th birthday party over and over again. Nadia becomes trapped in a time loop as she dies in different ways at the party but always returns to the festivities at the same moment, leading her to track down why she’s caught up in time.
The series landed four Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Lyonne’s performance. While the extended hiatus between seasons seemed to be part of the plan, it wasn’t expected that Russian Doll would be off the air for nearly three years before season 2.
Production on season 2 was meant to commence in March 2020, but filming was ultimately delayed due to the pandemic. Instead, production restarted one year later, and while there’s a chance Russian Doll could be back on our screens by the end of 2021, we should probably earmark the first quarter of 2022 for the next chapter of the inventive series.

On My Block season 4 release date
All good things must come to an end, and unfortunately, it’s On My Block’s time to bid farewell. As much as we’d loved to stick with these characters for many years into the future, the book will be closed on the beloved Netflix original coming-of-age comedy-drama with the upcoming fourth and final season. But when exactly will we watch it all come to an end?
On My Block comes from Awkward creator Lauren Iungerich and follows a group of four teenagers coming of age in an inner-city Los Angeles neighborhood. As they embark on the journey that is high school, their tight-knit friendships are tested through relatable and urgent stories about all kinds of issues adolescents face today.
The series earned its renewal for a fourth and final season in January 2021, almost one year after its third season started streaming in March 2020. Not surprisingly, the pandemic put a lot of strain on decision-making regarding which series would return and when. Given the late renewal, fans shouldn’t expect to say goodbye much before 2022, which is surely bittersweet.
As of March 2021, production is well underway on On My Block season 4, but not much more information about the season is currently known. We do know, however, that the main cast members will all be returning for the final chapter. Although it’s rumored filming could wrap by June, we should anticipate On My Block season 4 to follow suit with the show’s previous March release dates.

Grace and Frankie season 7 release date
Have you missed catching up with your favorite on-screen pals Grace and Frankie? Well, the wait for new episodes is quickly coming to an end, but there’s still a fair amount of waiting to do. Thankfully, Grace and Frankie season 7 has been confirmed by Netflix and will definitely arrive sometime in 2022. However, it will be the last run for the dynamic duo.
Grace and Frankie stars legendary performers Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as the titular pair, mismatched friends who are forced together when their husbands leave them for each other. What ensues in the series is a wild ride of finding the next chapters of their lives with each other by their sides, something they never really imagined.
Even though the past three seasons of Grace and Frankie have helped kick off the year with January bows, that momentum was curtailed by the pandemic shutting down production on the final season in March 2020. Erring on the side of caution, filming isn’t said to resume until June 2021 and will last throughout the summer months.
Being that Grace and Frankie season 7 will contain 16 episodes, which will rank the sitcom as the Netflix original with the most episodes at 94 total, we should expect the season to be released in two parts. The first part could premiere as soon as January 2022 with the second part closing out the series sometime in spring or summer 2022.

Raising Dion season 2 release date
Raising Dion might be one of the most underrated Netflix original series. The superhero family drama premiered in October 2019, and although it wasn’t one of the biggest hits of the year, the charming series certainly won over a core audience of fans ready for more. But has the series been renewed for season 2, and when will new episodes arrive?
Thankfully, Netflix picked up Raising Dion for a second season in January 2020, but the year came and went without new episodes hitting our watch lists. Like most shows, the underrated sci-fi series endured setbacks, but we can surely anticipate season 2 to debut in the next year.
Based on the comic book and short film of the same name by Dennis Liu, Raising Dion centers on a little boy named Dion (Ja’Siah Young), who is raised by his single mother, Nicole (Alisha Wainwright), after his father passes away. Soon, Nicole discovers Dion has developed the magical powers of a superhero and helps keep her son’s secret to protect him.
Raising Dion season 2 was said to have begun production in January 2021 and will run though at least May 2021. Obviously, if everything with post-production runs smoothly, fans could be watching the new season by the end of 2021. However, since chatter has been minimum on the release date of Raising Dion halfway into 2021, we should prepare for a 2022 bow.

Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 release date
Early in 2021, Netflix released the new original supernatural teen drama Fate: The Winx Saga. Although the series earned mixed reception from critics, it amassed a following of viewers ready to dive into another world of magic and fantasy. Luckily, those fans will have another chance to escape into the Winx world once again with season 2 in 2022.
Based on the Nickelodeon animated series Winx Club created by Iginio Straffi, Fate: The Winx Saga follows 16-year-old fairy Bloom (Abigail Cowen) as she enrolls in the magical Otherworld boarding school called Alfea College. While there, she makes four new friends who help her learn more about her past and take on the threatening group known as the Burned Ones.
Even though we suggested casual Netflix binge-watchers should skip Fate: The Winx Saga, it’s the perfect show to watch for fans of the fantastical and supernatural. It’s obvious that the series found its audience, as Netflix boasts a first-month viewership of 57 million subscribers for season 1. No doubt, season 2 will match, if not build, on those figures.
Since Fate: The Winx Saga premiered in January 2021 and earned its renewal only one month later, we should expect Netflix to keep the new hit on schedule. It’s rumored production will commence on the second season later in 2021, which could bring the new episodes to our screens sometime between January and March 2022. Shadow and Bone season 2 release date
Before Shadow and Bone even made its highly anticipated premiere, we already knew it would become a new fan-favorite Netflix original series. And with its April 2021 debut, the series fulfilled that prophecy as an instant hit with fantasy fans. Naturally, we’re already eager for more information about Shadow and Bone season 2. Is it happening?
As of this writing, Netflix hasn’t officially renewed Shadow and Bone for a second season, but news on its future should be announced in the next month or two. Given the multi-season renewals of other story-driven series, fans will be anxious to find out whether their new favorite binge-watch will be picked up for more than one season at a time.
Of course, the series is based on the novels Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, and there’s plenty of story left to tell in each of the book series. Upon release, the eight-episode first season earned positive reviews from critics and quickly gained an online fandom that will undoubtedly be loud and supportive throughout its entire (potential) run.
If you’re wondering whether Shadow and Bone season 2 is coming to Netflix in 2021, it’s a fair question. However, without an official confirmation on the second season, a timeline is tough to estimate. But once season 2 should get the greenlight, it’ll be time to turn up the anticipation all the way. Without question, Shadow and Bone could be one of the best shows coming in 2022.

Ginny and Georgia season 2 release date
Sometimes new Netflix original series are slow burners that benefit from word of mouth, but others become a hit on arrival. Ginny & Georgia premiered in February 2021 and instantly became a top title on the streaming service. Luckily, another season of the unbeatable mother-daughter dramedy is on the way, and it will be one of the best new releases in 2022.
For those who haven’t yet watched the series, Ginny & Georgia follows 15-year-old Ginny (Antonia Gentry) as she settles down in a New England town with her little brother and 30-year-old single mother Georgia (Brianne Howey). Not unlike another dramedy about a close-in-age mother-daughter duo, Ginny and Georgia go through life’s ups and downs together.
Ginny & Georgia’s first season wasn’t without its minor controversies, as some viewers found fault in its use of stereotyping and caught heat from none other than Taylor Swift herself for a less than flattering name-check. More than likely, those issues will be learning experiences for season 2, which fans still can’t wait to see sometime next year.
Because Ginny & Georgia got the greenlight for season 2 so soon after its premiere, we have a much better chance of seeing the series back on our screens sooner rather than later. Netflix series such as this one generally have a one-year turnaround time. Still, extended time will have to be factored in due to the pandemic’s continued delays on production.
Ginny & Georgia season 2 should debut within a year, but we’ll widen the release date window from February to May 2022. Stay tuned for more updates on the release date!
NARCOS MEXICO – Credit: Netflix
Narcos: Mexico season 3 release date
For many Netflix binge-watchers, Narcos was one of the first shows to get you hooked. Well, a version of the show is still here to keep you clicking “next episode” for hours. Narcos: Mexico is among the best original series on the streaming service and has so far released two addictive seasons. Next year, we should be getting the next installment.
A companion series to the hit Netflix original crime drama Narcos, the equally enthralling crime drama Narcos: Mexico centers on the early development of the illegal drug trade in Mexico. Diego Luna, who isn’t returning for season 3, stars as Guadalajara Cartel leader Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo and Michael Peña stars as DEA agent Kiki Camarena.
The second season of Narcos: Mexico premiered on Netflix on February 3, 2020, and by October of the same year, Netflix had given the go-ahead on the third season. Since there are currently few details about the production schedule of the upcoming season, it’s next to impossible to estimate whether the new season could arrive by the end of 2021 or we’ll be waiting until 2022.
However, all signs are pointing to Narcos: Mexico season 3 premiering in 2022. Unlike most Netflix original series, Narcos: Mexico doesn’t have a release pattern. The first season premiered in November 2018 while the second premiered, as we mentioned, in February 2020. Granted, the nearly two-year wait isn’t out of the ordinary, but season 3 could bow in any month in 2022.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 release date
Since its premiere in February 2019, The Umbrella Academy has become a new favorite on Netflix. In fact, the Netflix original series is one of the most-watched titles, coming in a sixth behind fellow originals such as newbies The Queen’s Gambit and Ratched. But there’s more of the superhero comedy-drama coming soon, but there’s still a bit of waiting to do.
Based on the comic book series of the same name by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy follows seven children born at the same day and time who were adopted by a billionaire and turned into a team of superheroes. The series stars Elliot Page, Tom Hooper and more returning favorites who will be joined by new cast members in season 3.
The Umbrella Academy last aired new episodes in July 2020, when the 10-episode second season followed up the first season’s own 10 episodes. Fans will be delighted to know that 10 more episodes are on the way with season 3, which is currently expected to make its premiere in 2022. That’s a much longer wait than fans have become accustomed to.
However, filming on The Umbrella Academy season 3 is already well underway, but new safety protocols have cut production days on our favorite shows shorter, making for a longer shooting schedule as a whole. Although we could start watching new episodes as early as the very end of 2021, we should prepare to wait as long as February or early spring 2022 for the release date of the new season.

Peaky Blinders season 6 release date
If you’re a fan of the period crime drama Peaky Blinders, you’re probably wondering when the next season will premiere on Netflix. After the fifth season dropped in 2019, the series entered a hiatus, which was made even longer due to the production delays brought on by the pandemic. Fortunately, we have some good news about Peaky Blinders season 6.
Peaky Blinders, which first premiered in the UK in 2013, follows the Shelby crime family in Birmingham, England after the events of World War I. The fifth season took place on Black Tuesday in 1929 and continued through the events that followed. Few details have emerged about the season 6 storyline, but it’s sure to be every bit as binge-worthy.
Even though season 6 will be the final season of Peaky Blinders, it’s been confirmed that production has been ongoing since January 2021. Considering some post-production time will be necessary after filming wraps, we’re definitely looking at any early 2022 release date, though a late 2021 bow could still be in the cards depending on other factors.
Peaky Blinders season 6 will surely stay in line with the previous five seasons and contain six episodes, a relatively quick binge to wrap up one of the top titles on Netflix. There’s also been talk of a movie and additional series about the Shelby family, but for now, we’re looking forward to the sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders coming to Netflix in 2022.

Dead to Me season 3 release date
Whether we like it or not, 2022 will be a year of bidding farewell to a number of fan-favorite Netflix original series. One show signing off for good is the Emmy-nominated dark comedy Dead to Me with its third and final season. Fortunately, we have a better idea of when to expect to see the end of Jen and Judy’s twisted tale.
The series, which comes from executive producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, centers on a widowed realtor played by Christina Applegate, who looks into the death of her husband a little too far. By teaming up with new friend Judy, played by Linda Cardellini, the pair wanders down a thorny path of death, secrets and close calls.
Dead to Me season 3 obviously found itself delayed due to the pandemic. The first two seasons were released on Netflix in May, but as of this writing, it’s May and we’re not binge-watching the final season. Rather, creator Liz Feldman announced on May 7 that the final season finally commenced production, quelling our worries for the extended setback.
Currently, Netflix hasn’t announced an official timeframe on when Dead to Me season 3 will hit our watch lists, but we’re inclined to estimate the finale 10 episodes will arrive in the first or second quarter of 2020. We’ve waited this long to see how Jen and Judy pivot from their latest fork in the road, and we’ll continue to wait for the big finish sometime next year.

Dear White People season 4 release date
Since the Netflix original series Dear White People hasn’t released new episodes since August 2019, you might be wondering if there’s even going to be another season of the hit series. Well, we have some good news for you, but it also comes with a little bit of uncertainty.
Dear White People season 4, which will also double as the finale season of the series, has been confirmed by Netflix. The season will consist of 10 episodes, falling in line with the orders of the previous three seasons and wrapping the show up with 40 total episodes.
However, Netflix hasn’t announced an official release date for the final season just yet. Prior to the pandemic, Dear White People was planned to sign off in 2020. But because of production shutdowns and delays, we’re well into 2021 without any new episodes.
While Dear White People season 4 could still arrive sometime in the latter half of 2021 to continue telling irreverent yet timely stories and tie up the loose ends, we just might have to pencil in the 10 final episodes for 2020. Regardless, the season without a doubt ranks as one of the best Netflix coming soon, no matter how bittersweet the goodbye might be.

When is the Sweet Magnolias season 2 release date?
If you’re anything like us, you’re missing one of the best comfort shows that helped get us through the thick of 2020. Sweet Magnolias premiered in May 2020 and quickly stuck around the top 10 most-watched shows. Naturally, we’re all wondering when we can meet back up with the titular Sweet Magnolias in the second season of the hit series.
Based on the book series by Sherryl Woods, Sweet Magnolias stars JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley as a trio of lifelong best friends as they take on all of life’s ups and downs together. As they weather all kinds of storms of relationships, parenting and everything in between, the best friends become business partners in their small town.
The second season sees season 1 recurring players Jamie Lynn Spears, Dion Johnstone and Brandon Quinn upped to series regulars. We’re glad to see these characters sticking around Serenity, but we’re all really interested in answers to that cliffhanger, right?
As much as we would have liked to see the breakout hit series return in summer 2021 for another dose of levity, Sweet Magnolias season 2 isn’t expected to premiere until 2022. But a bit of good news for fans eager to return to Serenity: filming is underway on season 2!
Even though that’s a positive note, the release date for Sweet Magnolias season 2 remains delayed until 2022. It’s unconfirmed exactly when in 2022 we’ll catch new episodes, but if we had to guess, February 2022 would be the perfect date for the romantic drama’s comeback. As per usual, we will keep you in the loop on any updates regarding the official release date of season 2.

Ozark season 4 release date
In 2022, there are a number of Netflix original series final seasons headed our way. One of those final seasons belongs to the critically acclaimed, fan-favorite hit Ozark, which will bid farewell with its fourth season. No doubt, Ozark season 4 is one of the best shows coming in 2022.
Unfortunately, fans have been in an Ozark drought since the third season started streaming in March 2020, but this won’t be the first time loyal viewers will have to wait over a year between seasons. Of course, with the final season being split into two parts, the wait could be even longer.
Ozark season 4 has been in production since November 2020, which one would presume to mean the first half of the 14-episode season would be ready to premiere in late 2021. But it’s still unconfirmed if we will see any new episodes in 2021 or if we will have to continue to wait for both halves to drop sometime in 2022.
With any luck, we’ll be digging into seven episodes of Ozark season 4 by the end of 2021, but that doesn’t change the fact that the final batch of episodes of the Emmy Award-winning series will be one of the best shows on Netflix in 2022.

The Crown season 5 release date
Over the course of its run, the Netflix original series The Crown has become one of the most-watched and awarded shows on the streamer, and the historical drama isn’t done with its reign just yet. The Crown season 5, the penultimate season of the series, is expected to be one of the top new release titles on Netflix in 2022.
The series tracks the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, as portrayed by Claire Foy (seasons 1 and 2) and Olivia Colman (seasons 3 and 4). The Crown begins with Elizabeth’s marriage in 1947 and continues all the way through the tumultuous times of the 1990s.
Season 5 will take place during the Queen’s reign throughout the 21st century, though it’s not expected to catch up with everything that went down in the royal family as recently as this year. But the wait for the next chapter featured in The Crown season 5 rages on, since the season isn’t going to commence filming until July 2021.
Following suit with the past four seasons, The Crown will welcome a new cast taking over the same roles: Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret.

Bridgerton season 2 release date
Maybe one of the best gifts Netflix has ever given us fittingly arrived on Christmas Day 2020 with the premiere of Bridgerton. Following its high-profile debut, which easily made the series one of the most-watched Netflix originals of all time, all eyes are on Bridgerton season 2.
Obviously, because of the hit’s acclaim and popularity, Netflix sanctioned another season right away in order to reduce the gap of hiatus. Even though the pandemic delayed the start of production on Bridgerton season 2, filming has gotten well underway on the next installment of the period romance drama, signaling a grand return sooner rather than later.
The second season of Bridgerton will continue the story as told by the series of novels by Julia Quinn, though focusing on a new featured protagonist, Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey). By now, you have probably heard the bittersweet news that Regé-Jean Page will not star in the second season, much to the disappointment of, well, everyone.
While there’s still a chance that Bridgerton season 2 could be ready for release by the end of the year, to maintain the Christmas season release tradition, we’re fully preparing for an early 2022 drop. No matter when the second season lands on Netflix, there’s still two more seasons to look forward to, since the series has been renewed for seasons 3 and 4.

Stranger Things season 4 release date
It’s no secret that the world is waiting with bated breath for the next installment of Stranger Things, by far one of the most popular Netflix original series of all time. Obviously, the upcoming fourth season stands as one of the most anticipated upcoming releases.
The series first premiered on Netflix in 2016 and quickly became the pop culture phenomenon we know and love today. Without question, Stranger Things is one of the most closely guarded titles on Netflix, with very little information being revealed ahead of time. However, that season 4 teaser sure left us all with something to talk about.
While there’s currently no official word on exactly when Stranger Things season 4 will hit our watch lists, it’s expected that the season could arrive at any given moment. We have already mused that the new episodes could debut in 2021, but they could also come in 2022. Finn Wolfhard said the new season would arrive next year.
It’s already been confirmed that season 4 will contain eight episodes, but beyond those episodes, it’s not confirmed how much more Stranger Things we’ll get. One thing we know for sure, whenever season 4 makes its way to our watch lists, whether in 2021 or 2022, it’ll be among the year’s best new releases.
