During the final round of the Florida tournament, the 38-year-old found himself faced with a tricky shot directly next to a tree.

The right-handed player could not use his preferred swing because of the obstacle so instead had to flip the club head upside down and attempt a left-handed swing.

Despite his unorthodox attempt, Horschel managed to complete a near-perfect shot onto the green.

It left the commentators stunned, with one exclaiming: “Wow, what a shot! No way!

“What in the world did we just watch?! How good is that?!”

Horschel capped it off with a 31ft birdie putt to go six-under par.

After the round, the American said: “I grabbed a 9-iron, hoping it wouldn’t go too far, and I was just hoping to get it up in the air and go straight.

“The funny thing was my little boy was about 50 yards in front of me just to the left on the cart path sitting down, and I had to yell at him to sort of get out of the way because I didn’t know exactly where this thing could go.

“Last thing I need to do is call my wife and tell her I just hit my son with a golf ball.

“But it was a hit-and-hope shot, and I pulled it off, and to make the putt sort of was with just sort of, I mean, funny things happen like that.”

Fans were also in awe of the incredible shot, with one person taking to X to write: “That’s insane. So talented.”

Another branded it “shot of the year,” while a third said: “This might be the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen.”

Horschel went on to finish the tournament with eight-under par.
