This speed track will be right up his street and he was impressive when scoring at Haydock last time. There’s more to come and Paul Nicholls has a cracking record in this race.
Stablemate Bravemansgame is right in the hunt but L’Homme Presse looks a bigger threat.
He is a proven Grade 1 performer who gave lumps of weight away when scoring at Newcastle last time.
King George VI Chase runner-by-runner guide
AHOY SENOR 3
AHOY there. Destroyed L’Homme Presse and Bravemansgame when winning an Aintree Grade 1 in April. Flopped when well backed for his return at Wetherby before a better back at Aintree. Respected with this track likely to suit.
BRAVEMANSGAME 3
IN the Game. Won the Grade 1 Kauto Star on this card last year and matched that form when winning the Charlie Hall at Wetherby last time. Harry Cobden’s choice of the Nicholls runners and trip and track ideal. This is his hottest race yet so needs a little more.
ELDORADO ALLEN 3
EL to pay. Good second in the Charlie Hall and another fine effort in the Betfair Chase at Haydock latest. Stays well and looks overpriced to hit the frame.
ENVOI ALLEN 3
EN the mix. Impressive Grade 1 win at Down Royal last month where he stayed 3m well at the first attempt. He travels strongly so Kempton should suit. More rain would help as his best has come on soft.
FRODON 2
TO and Fro. Won this in 2020 but well-beaten fourth last season. Came up short in the Betfair Chase last time after a good handicap win on return and needs his very best to figure.
HITMAN 5
DON’T miss Hit. Has gone close a few times at this level and was impressive when scoring at Haydock last time. Now he’s older and stronger he has every chance of staying this trip and has more to offer. Big chance.
L’HOMME PRESSE 4
PRESSE on. Improving chaser who landed a gutsy win off a big weight at Newcastle last time. He was impressive when winning the Brown Advisory at Cheltenham and stays strongly. More to come and can go close.
MILLERS BANK 1
BANK holiday. Grade 1 winner at Aintree over 2m4f in April and ran best race since when second in Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon. Track will suit but needs to raise his game.
ROYALE PAGAILLE 2
ROYALE flush. Top handicapper over this sort of trip when the mud is flying. Should be outpaced but could run into the frame if the heavens open.
Templegate’s King George tip
HITMAN is my idea of the King George winner in 2022.
He is improving with age and I love his upwardly mobile profile.
He is trained by the master in Paul Nicholls and I reckon he can spring a minor upset.
L’Homme Presse is the big danger, while Bravemansgame will have to improve a little to play a part in the finish.
