British Airways cabin crew member found dead in San Francisco hotel room

Published on April 20, 2025 at 04:08 PM

British Airways has confirmed that one of its cabin crew was found dead in his hotel room during an American stopover.

The male crew member arrived in San Francisco from the UK on Tuesday.

He had been staying in California before a shift on the return flight.

However, he failed to report for work on Thursday, leading to concern from his colleagues.

Hotel managers then forced the room open to discover him dead in his bed.

In a statement, British Airways said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of our colleague at this difficult time.”

The BA 284 flight from San Francisco International Airport to London Heathrow was then cancelled, after being due to depart at 4.20pm on April 17.

It is understood the other crew members were too upset to fly after the tragic news.

Passengers were not told why the flight was cancelled, but were given hotel rooms while alternative arrangements were made.
