Britney Spears Is Flattered By The Documentaries About Her Life, But She Also Thinks They’re Hypocritical

Published on May 05, 2021 at 01:47 AM

There are several documentaries and docu-series about Britney Spears and her conservatorship that have either aired or are in the works. This was all kicked off by the success of The New York Times Presents Framing Britney Spears, a documentary Britney has not seen, but that made her very emotional for at least two weeks after its release. Everyone seems to be rushing as fast as they can to release a Britney-themed doc, and all of a sudden interest in her life is very flattering, but also…it's not really sitting right with Britney herself.

According to Yahoo! News, the latest Britney doc premiered in the UK over the weekend. It's called The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash, and a Conservatorship, and it will be available for streaming in the US later next week on BBC Select. Britney probably won't be streaming that when it premieres stateside. You can also probably count on Britney to skip the untitled documentary that is reportedly in the works with Netflix. A few days after the BBC aired their Britney doc, Britney sort of addressed the situation on Instagram, in one of her world-famous Instagram shorty shorts twirl videos. Come for the carefree spinning, stay for the critical examination of ethics in media, with a condensed dialogue on moral ambiguity. Britney hints that it feels a little exploitative to dig up and rehash her lowest moments and worst trauma in the name of journalism and that she knows she went through a lot, but she's all about focusing on the positive. via Instagram:

“Geez!!!! 2021 is definitely way better than 2020 but I never knew it was gonna be like THIS!!!! So many documentaries about me this year with other people's takes on my life…what can I say...I’m deeply flattered!!!! These documentaries are so hypocritical...they criticize the media and then do the same thing????? Damn...I don’t know y’all but I’m thrilled to remind you all that although I've had some pretty tough times in my life…I've had waaaayyyy more amazing times in my life and unfortunately my friends...I think the world is more interested in the negative!!!! Why highlight the most negative and traumatizing times in my life from forever ago ???? I mean DAMN.”

Britney also called out her former makeup artist Billy B, who reportedly features in the BBC's documentary. The Independent reports he's used as a source and a witness, and that he claims to regularly speak to Britney (he has also previously alleged that Britney doesn't write her captions on her Instagram posts). According to Britney's Instagram post, she doesn't speak to Billy B at all and stresses that this is her Instagram account and her content:

be questioning whether Britney even knew that post was posted at all. I choose to believe Britney wrote that caption, or at the very least, she dictated it while engaged in an extended clockwise rotation in her foyer.
