Busy flyover road CLOSED in both directions after car crash – with drivers forced to take alternative routes

A BUSY flyover road has been closed in both directions after a car crash with drivers forced to follow diversions.

Commuters have been sat in bumper-to-bumper traffic as the travel chaos continues this morning.

The A563 Red Hill Way Flyover, in Leicester, remains completely shut down after a smash.

The closure is in place from the junction with The Sidings to Watermead way.

Access is still blocked between Halifax Drive and Red Hill Circle.

A Leicester Police spokesperson said: “Red Hill Way Flyover (A563) is completely closed from the junction with The Sidings to Watermead Way due to a road traffic incident.

“Please find alternative routes and updates will follow. Thank you for your patience.”

Details of the incident are still unknown.

“Traffic heading towards the flyover from Watermead Way is being diverted to Red Hill Circle. The roundabout is open,” the force added.

This comes after we reported a major motorway had been shut yesterday after a serious crash which left two people dead.

The M40 was closed in both directions between junction 9 (Bicester) and junction 8 (Tiddington) following the horror collision shortly after midnight.

Thames ValleyPoliceconfirmed two men tragically died as a result of the crash near Oxford.

Two other men sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital, said the force.

The horror smash has caused a buildup of traffic and serious disruption for commuters on Tuesday morning.

This week also saw the M6 shut in the southbound direction between junctions 17 and 16 following a “serious collision” inCheshire.

National Highways reported approximately two miles of congestion on approach to the closure, with all four lanes shut down.
