Chelsea ‘in talks over shock Memphis Depay transfer signing in January after failed move from Barcelona in summer’

CHELSEA are mulling over a move for Memphis Depay after failing to land the Barcelona ace in the summer, according to reports.

The Dutch star has missed a huge chunk of this season with injuries and only appeared for the Catalan club twice the league.

Summer recruitments like Robert Lewandowski has also left Depay potentially surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp.

But the 28-year-old could be in for a surprise January move with a good World Cup performance.

Depay is in the Dutch squad despite his fitness issues and Sports Witness report that an impressive tournament in Qatar could help reignite interest in his signature.

The ex-Manchester United man was previously edging towards a Chelsea move in the summer.

But Depay decided he wanted to fight for his place at Barcelona despite their new signings.

Now out of favour, a January move is believed to be back on the cards.

Depay’s contract runs out at the end of this season so Chelsea could land him for a cut-price fee.

The Blues have found their attack to be one of their weaknesses this season.

Graham Potter’s side have gone five league games without a win and collapsed into mid-table.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a bright start but goals have since dried up for the former Arsenal striker.

The forward line has consistently been a problem for Chelsea in recent years.

Neither Timo Werner nor Romelu Lukaku could solve the club’s issues going forward and were let go this summer.

Other stars from around Europe – like Christopher Nkunku, Ousmane Dembele and Rafael Leao – have also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge to help solve Chelsea’s striking woes.
