Chelsea: He’ll be terrified by egos – Neil Warnock gives verdict on Potter

Published on October 07, 2022 at 03:47 AM

Former Cardiff City and Crystal Palace manager, Neil Warnock, believes that new Chelsea head coach, Graham Potter, will be terrified by the prospect of coaching some of the egos in the Blues’ dressing room.

According to him, Potter will be facing challenges at Stamford Bridge that he would never have encountered at Brighton.

He added that the Englishman would be able to rely on his own fine record as a coach, adding that his £200k-a-week salary will help him relax.

Potter was appointed as Chelsea’s new manager a few weeks ago after the club’s new co-owner Todd Boehly sacked Thomas Tuchel.

Speaking on the Die For Three Points podcast, Warnock said: “Potter will be worried, he’ll be frightened, but he knows his coaching will take him through it and he will have his staff there with him.

“Deep down underneath, he’ll be absolutely terrified of some of them lads! But he’s gonna get through that because, as a manager, you are going to progress – the £200k-a-week will help him relax!

“He’ll be terrified underneath at times because he’s gonna come up against egos that he’s never met in his life. When you have been at a club like Brighton, and I’m not being disrespectful, there’s not really a lot of pressure.

“He won’t change as a manager, he will try and get those big egos working together as a team, which is easier said than done.

“If they lock into what Graham wants, there’s no reason they can’t become a force again because it’s a great club.”;
