Top cop probed over claims he failed to disclose relationship with junior colleague

Published on March 24, 2025 at 11:13 PM

A CHIEF constable is being investigated over claims he failed to disclose he was in a relationship with a junior colleague.

The allegations against former counter-terror officer Scott Chilton relate to several years ago, when he was a senior cop and the woman said to be involved was a sergeant.

The probe into the Hampshire and Isle of Wight chief was triggered after another former senior detective accused him during a misconduct hearing of having an affair.

Det Chief Insp Roger Wood, who was found to have committed gross misconduct over sexual relationships with junior staff, is understood to have told his own tribunal: “Well, the chief constable had an affair.”;

Mr Chilton, former chief constable of Dorset, has been a cop for 33 years and began the Hampshire top job in 2023.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct confirmed the probe is in its early stages.

It said it “involves allegations the chief constable failed to disclose a conflict of interest in a previous relationship”;.

Hampshire Crime Commissioner Donna Jones said: “The chief constable remains in post and has my full support.”;
