Chris Eubank Jr says Canelo Alvarez is ‘next logical fight’ after Conor Benn grudge bout but reveals key rematch clause

CHRIS EUBANK JR said fighting Canelo Alvarez is the logical next step if he beats Conor Benn – but he faces having to do it twice.

It comes 35 years after – while they drew in their rematch three years later.

– despite their two recently speaking for the first time in years.

The British boxing legend has voiced his interest in Eubank Jr, 35, facing Mexican superstar Canelo, 34, in the future.

And Eubank Jr said on Ariel Helwani's show: “I do think that is a next logical fight.

“And this fight, Turki [Alalshikh] is saying can put me in a position to get in the ring with Canelo which would be amazing.

“So I agree with him on that. That doesn't mean that I shouldn't fight Conor.

“He thinks that Canelo is the only guy I should fight and that's not how boxing works.”;

and were first set to meet in a 157lb catchweight clash in October 2022.

But Benn was pulled out with just days to go after two failed pre-fight drug tests came to light which saw his British Boxing Board of Control licence upheld

He protested and fought his innocence – meanwhile taking his career to America for two wins at the 154lb light-middleweight limit.

Benn, 28, later saw his provisional UK Anti-Doping ban lifted – – and allowing him to fight on home soil again.

It also paved the way for the rescheduling of his bout with Eubank – which includes a rematch clause to all-but guarantee two fights between them.

And Eubank added: “This is a fight that the fans are demanding.

“They have been demanding it for years. This fight is bigger than boxing. It’s mainstream in the UK.

“In the UK, it's probably bigger than a Canelo fight because the general public don't know who Canelo is.

“The boxing fans do but the general public don't because the general public aren't boxing fans. They don't know anything about boxing.

“This is a fight where you've got kids, you’ve got grandmas, you’ve got people that don't know or care about boxing at all and they are going to be at that fight.

“This is a very special thing we have here so people ask me about what I'm going to do next, I have no interest in even thinking about it because this fight is so huge for me and I cannot wait to get in that ring.”;
