Christians should be allowed to serve in Hisbah – Zaria CAN

Published on April 29, 2025 at 01:19 PM

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Zaria Local Government Chapter, has called on the Kaduna State Government to allow Christian youths to be recruited into the state’s Hisbah Corps to promote unity, peace, and religious inclusion.

Secretary of the Zaria CAN chapter, Pastor Nuhu Sani, made the appeal during a public engagement organised by the Kaduna State Hisbah Board on Monday.

He stressed that including Christians in the operations of Hisbah would not only foster interfaith collaboration but also change the public perception of the agency as being exclusively Islamic.

“There is no religion whose followers are free from wrongdoing. Christians and Muslims alike commit offences, and that is why we are calling for broader recruitment into Hisbah that includes members of other faiths,”; Pastor Sani said.

He added that allowing Christians to serve in the Hisbah Corps would enhance social trust and enable better synergy between religious communities in tackling moral and societal issues.

While speaking, the Commander-General of the Kaduna State Hisbah Board, Awwal Abubakar, said the board had intensified efforts in combating immoral activities across the state, disclosing that over 150 criminal hideouts had been uncovered through collaborative operations with other security agencies.
