Bathrooms are the perfect breeding ground for mould, and it's not just ugly, it's dangerous.

Removing mould feels like a never-ending task and while you may not want to deal with it, it shouldn't be ignored.

The NHS states if you have damp and mould in your home you're more likely to have respiratory problems, respiratory infections, allergies or asthma.

Damp and mould can also affect the immune system.

Mould grows by producing tiny particles called spores – these are airborne and can spread quickly in your home.

And while we tend to use a multitude of cleaners to get rid of it and make white finishings white again, Chanel has an easier hack.

She revealed that you can simply soak a cloth in hydrogen peroxide to get rid of it.

Chantel said: “Soak a cloth in hydrogen peroxide and place it on tough mould to whiten it instantly.”;

The cleaning whizz said a quick swipe can get rid of less stubborn mould stains while placing it on spots for 30 minutes will get rid of deeper set stains.

Hydrogen peroxide is a type of bleach. However, not all bleaches have hydrogen peroxide as the active ingredient.

Our home is so mouldy mushrooms and flies infest walls - it's making us sick

It kills mould by acting as oxidizing agent, releasing oxygen to help break down the mould’s cell structure, proteins, and DNA and kill the mould.

ICE Cleaning revealed that using hydrogen peroxide to banish mould is popular as it doesn’t produce toxic fumes or a harmful residue, is inexpensive, and is easy to find.

However, it explained that it will only kill mould on hard surfaces, such as glass, counters and walls.

They wrote: “Mould on porous surfaces, like fabric, upholstered furniture, and wood is much harder to treat as it grows deep in the pores and can evade treatment.”;

Cleaning hacks and tips

Here are some tips to help you clean your home like a pro:

You also don't want to mix hydrogen peroxide with other cleaners as it can be harmful and cause skin irritation.

They explained: “As it is usually recommended you treat mould with hydrogen peroxide by spraying it on the affected area and scrubbing off the mould, it could make your mould problem worse.

“If mixed with another cleaning chemical, it can create very harmful substances, as well. Hydrogen peroxide and vinegar, for example, make peracetic acid which can irritate eyes, skin, and the respiratory system.

“It can even damage certain surfaces, like bleaching natural fabrics. You must remove all the hydrogen peroxide immediately after cleaning to protect your possessions.”;

Of course, once finished, you should make sure to wipe away the hydrogen peroxide from the surface.

You can purchase the cleaning product for as little as £4.99 from Amazon and need a small amount.

That makes the hack not only effective, but budget friendly too as it will cost just 10p to soak your cloth.
