Club World Cup 2025: UK govt bans Chelsea, Man City fans

Published on April 02, 2025 at 07:18 PM

The British government on Wednesday announced that about 150 Chelsea and Manchester City supporters must hand over their passports to the police to prevent them from travelling to the United States for the Club World Cup tournament.

According to the Home Office, the fans have received banning orders for “previous thuggish behaviour” related to football.

Offences listed include “violence, disorder, pitch invasions, use of pyrotechnics, and online hate crime.”

The government stated that updated legislation came into force on Wednesday for the FIFA-organised tournament, which will take place from 14 June to 13 July across 11 American cities.

Chelsea and Manchester City qualified for the tournament by winning a Champions League title within the past four seasons.

They are scheduled to play their initial group stage matches in Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Orlando.

Fans subject to a banning order must surrender their passports at least five days before the tournament kicks off in Miami and continues through to the final, which will be held near New York.
