Communal Crisis: Gov Adeleke relaxes 24 hours curfew in Ifon, Ilobu, Erin-Osun

Published on March 28, 2025 at 01:05 PM

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the immediate relaxation of the 24-hour curfew in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Friday also reduced the curfew to a 17-hour curfew.

The new restriction, the statement said, will now run from 2 pm to 7 am daily, starting from Friday, March 28, 2025.

The statement confirmed that the decision was made to ease the hardships faced by residents while maintaining security in the affected communities.

Governor Adeleke acknowledged the reduction in hostilities but expressed concerns over reports of another killing in the area.

“The governor has directed the relaxation of the curfew to allow residents to attend to urgent needs while security operations continue to prevent further violence.

“We will not tolerate any further violence. Anyone found inciting unrest will face the full consequences of the law,” he warned.

The governor confirmed that the police had made an arrest in connection with the latest violence and urged security agencies to remain vigilant, ensuring law and order were maintained.

He also directed the state emergency response agency to intensify relief efforts for displaced residents, reaffirming his administration's commitment to their welfare.

“Security operatives, including the police and military personnel, have been instructed to sustain their 24-hour surveillance to prevent any resurgence of violence,” the statement added.

Residents of the affected towns; Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun were also advised to comply with the adjusted curfew and cooperate with security personnel to maintain peace.
