Conference League: Why I took Cole Palmer off at half time against Legia – Maresca

Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, has explained why he took Cole Palmer off at half time of their Europa Conference League quarter-final against Legia Warsaw.

Palmer started the game in Poland, but did not come back out for the second half.

The Blues had struggled to break down their hosts in the opening 45 minutes of the match.

Maresca took off Palmer and Tosin Adarabioyo and brought on Noni Madueke and Levi Colwill.

Tyrique George eventually opened the scoring for Chelsea, before Madueke added a quickfire brace. continued his impressive rise with the opener.

After the game, Maresca confirmed the substitutions were pre-planned.

“We planned for him and Tosin to come off on 45 minutes.Everything is fine.

“We planned the game to try to have our best players for this game and to also give chances for some rest and to recover energy,” he said.
