Copa del Rey final: I’m sorry – Rudiger apologies to referee, Bengoetxea

Published on April 27, 2025 at 10:58 AM

Real Madrid defender, Antonio Rudiger has apologized for his behaviour towards referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea during his side's Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona on Saturday.

Recall that Jules Kounde’s goal in extra time gave Barcelona a 3-2 win against Real Madrid in Sevilla.

Following Kounde’s goal, tensions boiled over on the Real Madrid bench in the closing stages of the game.

Rudiger attempted to confront De Burgos Bengoetxea and threw an ice cube at him.

The Germany international then received a red card for his behaviour.

Speaking after the game, Rudiger said there was no excuse for his behaviour.

“There’s no excuse for my behaviour last night. I’m very sorry for that, sorry to the referee,” Rudiger was quoted as saying by Fabrizio Romano.

“We player a very good game from the 2nd half on. After 111 minutes, I was not able to help my team anymore and before the final whistle I did a mistake.”
