CORONATION Street star Charlie Lawson has taken a bitterly cruel swipe at his former co-star after they shared some emotional personal news.

The star, who played Jim McDonald on the ITV soap opera, appeared to take a swipe at Shobna Gulati, who played Sunita Alahan alongside Jim on the programme.

Shobna stunned the world earlier this week when they revealed they are non-binary.

The Coronation Street star made the surprise confession earlier this week as well as admitting they had “fallen in love” with a new partner.

Now, Shobna's former co-star Charlie has shared a scathing response to their news in an online post on X – formerly Twitter.

Reacting to a news post on the social media site about Shobna being non-binary, Charlie seethed as he shared a one-word response: “Yawn.”

Charlie, known for being outspoken and for his controversial views, did not add anything further on Shobna's announcement.

Shobna and Charlie acted alongside each other for just under three years between 2009 and 2011.

Shobna opened up toKaye Adamson theHow to Be 60podcast earlier this week about their gender identity.

They revealed they'd always felt this way but only recently found the right term to describe their identity.

Shobna said: “I’ve become more happy describing myself as a person. What do people call it now? Non-binary. So, I suppose that’s who I am.

“I’ve never had a word for it, but I’ve learnt from our younger generation what that might look like in terms of a word, because I know what it feels like in terms of being me.”;

A non-binary person is someone who does not exclusively identify as male or female.

Their gender identity may be fluid, or they may feel a mix of both genders or neither.

OnInstagram, Shobna lists their preferred pronouns as “she/they”;.

They also confessed that even though they are “currently in love”, they'd be open to dating both men and women in the future.

Shobna shared that their understanding of being non-binary became clearer after a conversation with a sound engineer while working on a project together.

They added: “The sound person said to me that they were non-binary, and I said: ‘What is that?’ So, then she explained, and I thought, ‘Well, I feel like that, but I didn’t ever have that vocabulary.’”

Shobna first arrived on the cobbles in 2001, playing Sunita, who eventually married Dev Alahan.

In their personal life, Shobna married architect Anshu Srivastava in a Hindu ceremony at the age of 23.

Their marriage lasted four years, and Shobna became a single parent to son Akshay, now 30.
