CORONATION Street airs explosive scenes as Rob Donovan’s tense hostage situation spirals out of control – ending in a shocking shooting.

Tuesday's dramatic episode of Coronation Street showed one unlucky victim take a bullet as the standoff turns deadly, leaving Weatherfield residents fearing the worst.

Held captive by gun-wielding Rob, Tracy was forced to call his sister Carla

Held at gunpoint by a desperate Rob Donovan, Tracy Barlow was forced to lure his sister Carla Connor into his trap – with a stomach-churning meal of out-of-date spaghetti on toast.

As a terrified Carla arrived, Rob laid out his twisted plan, vowing to take them both down with him in a final, deadly stand-off.

But while Carla tried to talk him down with childhood memories, Tracy seized her chance to escape, raising the alarm with Carla’s detective girlfriend, DS Lisa Swain.

Lisa stormed in, but Rob refused to back down – and as a violent struggle broke out over the gun, a shot rang out.

With Rob’s health deteriorating from his botched kidney transplant, he was finally taken into custody, but outside, the real horror unfolded – Lisa’s daughter, Betsy, had been hit.

As she lay bleeding and terrified, Lisa was left reeling.

Rob may have survived – but will Betsy make it?

The episode also saw the debut of scaffolder Theo Silverton, played by James Cartwright.

He immediately got on the wrong side of George and Eileen after almost hitting Julie with a scaffolding pipe.

Upcoming scenes will swiftly see sparks fly with Todd Grimshaw, as he helps Theo patch things up with the locals.

Teasing the pair's upcoming storyline he added to The Mirror: “Todd’s eye has been taken by Theo but it takes him a little longer!

“The journey of true love never did run smoothly and it’s like a perfect stew – you need all the right ingredients but if you over salt it, you are in terrible trouble. You need to let it simmer.”

James is bestknown to many telly fansfor his role as care worker Nathan inCBBCkids showTracy Beaker.

The screen star, who was raised in Bolton, gushed over the “absolute privilege” of bagging a role on theManchester-based soap, which was. family favourite with his grandma Edith.
