CP seeks cooperation of hoteliers in fight against criminals

The Commissioner of Police in Niger State, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has sought the cooperation of hoteliers in Minna to curb the menace of thuggery in the state.

Elleman made this call during an interactive stakeholders' meeting with hoteliers over the menace of thuggery that has been disturbing the city.

“Some of the miscreants committing thuggery in the state are not from Minna, and they usually commit these vices with the use of tricycles and motorcycles, robbing unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables and causing injuries or even death,” the CP said at the meeting.

He noted that criminals are using proceeds of crime to lodge in hotels, thereby getting shelter from the hoteliers knowingly or unknowingly.

The CP said he has come to assist the hoteliers in their business and to assist the state in the area of protection of lives and property.

The CP charged the hoteliers to assist security agencies in sanitising the city by providing intelligence, observing their customers.

He equally said they should not accept many persons in a room.

“We are asking you to assist the police in arresting thugs and miscreants disturbing the peace in the city. So far, a lot of the miscreants have been arrested, including those who committed culpable homicide recently,” he pleaded with the hoteliers.

Elleman added, “There is no infringement on anyone's right, because this effort is in the interest of security of the state, and every human rights has limitations, most especially when it affects the rights of other persons; such as robbing people of their valuables, causing injuries on innocent persons, and even causing unnecessary loss of life.”

The hoteliers appreciated the CP's efforts and pledged their support and cooperation.

They also raised some challenges they face with security agencies, which the CP addressed accordingly.
