American billionaire, Elon Musk has reacted to the Department of Government Efficiency's announcement that it has successfully deactivated 470,000 unused and unneeded credit cards in the United States.
On Wednesday, DOGE disclosed in an updated statement released on its X account, that the audit of unneeded or unused credits has been expanded to 30 agencies in the US to control waste and fraud.
The agency also stressed that when it started an audit of unused credit cards, there were 4.6 million, noting that more work needed to be done.
“The programme to audit unused/unneeded credit cards has been expanded to 30 agencies. After 7 weeks, 470k cards have been deactivated,” DOGE tweeted.
Reacting, Musk, who currently leads DOGE, labelled the development as ‘crazy.'
According to him, more credit cards are issued and active than the total number of government employees in the US.
“Twice as many credit cards are issued and are more active than the total number of government employees! Crazy,” Musk tweeted.
DOGE, with the mandate of US President Donald Trump in the last past few weeks, carried out a probe across federal agencies to reduce waste and fraud in the country.
In March, through different cuts, including the US Agency for International Development.
