But Ronaldo was once again left on the bench for the clash as he continues to be out of favour with the Dutch manager.
And when the Portuguese star, 37, realised during the final few minutes of the match that he was not going to get on the pitch, he made the decision to head down the tunnel before the final whistle.
The move led several people to create a joke heat map for him against Spurs.
It shows the Man Utd man warming the bench, before heading down the tunnel – with no action actually coming on the pitch.
And social media users were left in stitches by the Ronaldo trolling, with one person saying: “This one is cold 🤣.”
While another added: “Meet the man who travels across the UK rating benches.”
A third said: “Hat’s off to him. What a good performance 😎😎😎.”
While a fourth jokingly added: “This heat map is wrong because he warmed up a bit, he didn’t stay on the bench all match 😅.”
Ronaldo has started just two of Man Utd’s 12 Premier League games so far this season.
Ten Hag has opted to select Marcus Rashford to lead the line for his side, leaving the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to play a bit-part role in the squad.
He has made 12 appearances in total this season, contributing just two goals and one assist.
Speaking after the match about Ronaldo storming down the tunnel, Ten Hag said: “We will deal with that on Thursday. I saw him leaving but I didn’t speak to him after.
“I don’t pay attention to that, we want to focus on this team, it was a magnificent performance from all 11 players.
“Tonight we celebrate the result and the rest we deal with on Thursday.”
