And one fan appeared to reckon might currently be better at checkingstout than checking out.

The oche enthusiast even made a suggestion about his own game that was even more far-fetched as his claim about the 44-year-old.

He posted on X: “I can shoot better darts than Dave Chisnall in his current form and I’ve never played a day in my life.

“Imagine being a pro dart player and throwing a total score between 20 and 50 multiple times in a single match. Is he drunk?”

Chisnall took the jibe well – and responded by showing he was as sharp as ever, even if his darts isn't quite at his best.

He replied: “Gonna start shooting darts instead of chucking them and see if I end up doing any better.”;

Defeat against World No 64 Meikle came just a day after Micky Mansell sunk him 6-5.

But Chisnall is confident his dodgy spell is all down to changing his technique.

He said last month: “It’s hard to explain, but the first dart is going too high, and I have to switch.

“I’ve tried messing around with my throw, but it doesn’t work.

“The weird thing is, I end up seeing the bottom of my flight when I hold the dart. It catches the corner of my eye and I end up losing concentration.

“Only I know how to throw my darts and I will just have to work on and find a way of fixing. “

But chisnall believes peak form is just around the corner.

And when it returns it could trebles all round… the board.
