De Bruyne to refuse playing for Man City at 2025 Club World Cup

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne will not extend his stay at the club to feature at the Club World Cup this summer, according to Daily Star.

De Bruyne is set to leave the Premier League champions when his contract expires at the end of June, midway through the summer tournament.

The Belgian has already hit out at the club chiefs, questioning the decision to let him leave, and doubt is being cast on his Club World Cup involvement.

De Bruyne is now reluctant to play and risk an injury which might hamper his chances of finding a new club.

The 33-year-old will be obliged to travel to the US for the start of the tournament in mid-June, with his contract not expiring until the 30th.

But he expects City to understand his situation when he holds further talks.

Teams that will be playing in the Club World Cup are permitted to seek special dispensation to continue using players in situations like that faced by De Bruyne.
