In 2020, the Icelandic strongman Hafthor Bjornsson beat that record by 1kg, while deadlifting 501kg.
With that, he was classified as the holder of the record for the heaviest deadlift.
Who is Hafthor Bjornsson?
Born on 26 November 1988 in Iceland, Bjornsson was a lanky teenager at first, but always exercising and training.
He is also regarded as one of the strongest men alive.
In 2018, he became the first and only person to win three strongman competitions in one calendar year, this includes, World’s Strongest Man, Europe’s Strongest Man and Arnold Strongman Classic.
Bjornsson also took a career in acting, as he portrayed the character of Gregor Clegane in the TV series, Game of Thrones.
He did that for 5 seasons, and due to his own size, his character gained the nickname The Mountain.
In May 2020, he made history by deadlifting 501 kg, this won him a place in the Guinness World Records book.
How much has Eddie Hall deadlifted?
Before Bjornsson’s deadlifting record, the title was held by Staffordshire-born boxer, Eddie Hall.
Hall deadlifted 500kg in 2016, winning him at the time, the position of the heaviest deadlift.
He is not short of winning completions either, whether they are international or national.
