Released in 2017 to critical acclaim, the heart warming, Mexico-set film follows 12-year-old aspiring musician Miguel.
In the film, the boy is whisked away to the Land of the Dead, where he looks to break the ban on music his family had imposed for many decades.
That's right! We are talking about the Oscar-winning movie Coco which is getting a very surprising sequel.
Disneyand Pixar CEO Bob Iger has confirmed a follow-up is officially on the way â although fans will have to wait until 2029 to see it.
During The Walt Disney Company's Annual Meeting of Shareholders, Igor said: “While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humour, heart and adventure.
“And we can't wait to share more soon.”
Coco 2 reunites the team behind the original film, including director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina.
Oscar winning producer Mark Nielsen (Toy Story 4, Inside Out 2) will produce the new film.
The first movie received huge praise for its portrayal of Mexican culture and its poignant, emotional storyline.
Our hero Miguel, a typically inquisitive and lively Pixar child, loves music and cannot understand why it has been forbidden by his family.
Upon discovering it to be the result of his great-great grandmother’s heart getting broken by a pesky guitarist, he ends up in the afterlife and with the help of his skeletal ‘Ancestors’ must find his way back home.

In the afterlife, he learns that should the relatives of the dead remember or pay tribute to them, they are allowed to cross over and celebrate.
However should the living not cling on to those memories, they no longer “exist”;.
It was hailed as a triumph by Latin American critics for it’s portal of their culture and ceremonies and has since become Mexico’s biggest film ever.
The voice cast included several actors and singers who are Mexican or of Mexican descent, including Gael GarcÃa Bernal, Alanna Ubach, and Ana Ofelia MurguÃa.
